The words of Shopify bulk editing, defined
- Bulk editor
- A tool that changes one field across many products in one operation. The Shopify admin has a limited one; apps extend it.
- Mass update
- Same thing, the phrase merchants use when the set is large. Prices, tags, inventory and status are the usual fields.
- Scope
- The set of products or variants a change applies to: a collection, a vendor, a tag, an option value, a condition. The count in the preview is the scope, resolved.
- Preview
- The list of rows a change will write, shown before it writes. The current value and the new value side by side.
- Rollback / revert
- Writing the previous values back to the rows a job changed. The admin cannot do it; an app can only if it saved the values first.
- Compare-at price
- The crossed-out price on a sale. It lives on the variant and has to be set and cleared with the price, in the same job.
- Metafield
- A custom field on a product or variant: material, dimensions, care instructions. Defined per store, so a bulk edit has to know your definitions.
- Variant option
- Size, colour, "Ships From". Imports create options merchants did not ask for; removing one across a catalog is a variant-level job.
- SEO title and meta description
- The search listing fields on each product. Length limits, one per product, and most catalogs have hundreds empty.
- Merchant Center feed
- The product data Google Shopping reads from your store. Rejections come from fields on the product, which is where the fix is.
